ANTS

  • Ants are one of the most common pests in and around home.

  • Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organised colonies that may occupy large territories and consist of millions of individuals.

  • As a group, ants are important natural predators of many insect pests including flea and fly larvae, caterpillars and termites.

  • Some ant species become problems in lawns and gardens when they build large unsightly mounds or protect aphids, mealybugs, scales and other insect pests from their natural enemies.

  • Ants can also damage plants by tunnelling around the roots causing them to dry out.
